So it was one of those days at wax’n’facts. I went to lunch and went upstairs. I was sitting down and I heard a cat crying. Automatic worrier that I am, I immediatly thought oh, no a cat stuck in the back of the store. But, no it was too faint. So I went outside and near the back wall I heard it again. So I lay down in the road and peered up the drain, no kitty.
I then decided to call teka and see if he could come over and tell me whether I was hallucinating kitty cries. He was close, and came over in a minute or so, and heard it too. He then went to the Tavern and found a flashlight and shone it in the drain, no kitty. We finally shone the flashlight between Wax’n’Facts and the Vortex – and kitty eyes!
I went to the Vortex and asked them to open the space between the stores – they have the key and, kindly someone did. The opening looked clear, and half way up is a huge pile of trash, so we could not get to the otherside. Back to wax’n’facts.
I told Paul I would be taking a extra long break as I was sure there was a trapped Kitty. He was ok with that, and I grabbed the ladder and positioned it above the gap and climbed up, to see if I could see what was trapped and how bad it was.
There were 5 kittens back there, all desperate to get out. No sign of a den, or a mother, no way in or out. I freaked, little black and white fluffy crying kitties. I then called Alice and Harry, who came over.
Harry decided he would try get a brick out and see if we could lure the kitties out. So a crow bar and cold chisel and he went to work. It took him about half an hour to break apart one brick and then the kitties came walking out…
We figure someone dumped them, over the wall, as they are very friendly, not scared at all, no mom to be seen at all, and they looked cared for, not thin or scraggy at all.
They are living in mdaniel‘s bathroom for tonight – getting bottle fed, and some wet food. They look about 3 to 4 weeks old, blue eyes, and pointy tails.
They are all black with white paws and white stripes. So cute! And so hungry, and so needy.
