A new baby elephant
Everytime I see a picture like this I want to move to Kenya and help! I look in the truck and notice all the blankets – which are donated by British Airways, and I know the mobile phone service and internet service are partially donated by my Dad’s company. I wonder all the time is there anything else I can do apart from making people aware.
Africa all over is in a crisis, the people are expanding into tradiational animal lands and water areas. People think it is fun to go over to Africa and buy animal skins and hunt, this merely encourages more destruction. I look at an elephant, lion, buck, hippo, cheetah, crane and see intelligent life and unsurpassing beauty. How can we as a group of people want to wipe this out? How can we want to wear ivory jewllery, eat ground up rhino horn(which is just hair), wear crocodile teeth, drink lion claws, wear crane feathers, walk on zebra skins?
And never mind the destruction of the land and cultures in terms of progress. Genentic crops that infect wildlife, pesticides, diverging of water it all pains me.
When I was younger I dreamt I would be rich and just buy land. This land I dreamt I would leave fallow – destroy the buildings and man-made areas and let nature come back. I thought it would be so easy. Pah! Behind my house now there were deer a mere 3 years ago, now there are houses. I live on property in the middle of Atlanta, when we bought the house we were told the land behind us was “easement land” no building allowed was it was to protect the creek and prevent flooding. Well, that area of land is still there, but a lot smaller now as the people built houses right on the edge of it, and the deer are gone. I still see the rabbits some times.
