So we finally got here safely! But, they lost Charlotte’s luggage and so we took forever in baggage and customs. Then we left Cape Town and started driving up to Darling, Western Cape. We stopped at De la Ray a Home Depot type store and then at Pick ‘n’ Pay and I went and got Charlotte and I rounders each – yummy KFC – and she got me juice – passion fruit – and my Dad got fish for his pond.
Then another 20 or so minutes of driving and we were in Darling and turned off in a section called Jakkelsfontein. So beautiful and wild and so relaxing to feel home! The house is great it is in the area called Sandpiper and right near the resort here so we can use the pool and tennis court and all their faculties. We popped the fish in the pond and I went off to shower. Lovely hot water with loads of pressure and glass and felt a thousand times better.
The house is great about 25 meters from the beach with crashing cold waves and white sand. It is a rough coastline and especially here! So no swimming unless we have a calm day. It is a two storey house with Charlotte and I sharing the upstairs room and off it a batheroom, and it opens from the study. Downstairs is the main bedroom and bathroom and then the lounge and dinning room with a great driftwood style christmas tree and it looks great – very african. The is the kitchen and then the entrance hall and then Riannon’s room which she is sharing with her cousin Priya.
But, next on the agenda was a quick trip to the wine shop and a stop at the cafe to get chocolate and a cool drink. The wine shop carries all the wine from the area and it is very nice – cool and stone with a small selection, we bought about 10 bottles which my dad feels shall last until the mid week…..
Back home to braai – and see a ostrich along the way and I forgot to mention the tortoise we saw and the hawks hunting and the franklin (type of guinea fowl). Charlotte and I took quick stroll along the beach and saw lots of cuttle fish bits and mussel shells and crab legs, the wind was strong and the clouds started rolling in. By the time we got back it was time to braai and eat. And eat we did: grilled sardines, grilled corn, boerewos, fillet, homemade hamburgers, salad, potatoes, and then we were stuffed!
So I went to nap as the 36 hours or so without sleep were getting rather wearing.
