Last night was a show I have been waiting to see for a while, and almost missed. Antony and the Johnsons played at Variety Palyhouse, and as far as I know it was their first tour and trip down South.
I have been a fan since 1996 when Current 93 did a split ep with him, and for years looked for something else, then 10 years later he was suddenly huge and everywhere. I was late to the show as Greg Adamson was helping me sort out my new mac – Saint Finian – and it took longer than I, and him I think expected. But, I speed showered, and dressed and rushed off to Little 5, and got in to the show. It was pretty full, which made me very glad, as a few weeks ago Variety was really worried about selling enough tickets. I was about 15 minutes late, but I loved the show. I adored how Antony talked and interacted with the audience, and they played every song I wanted to hear: you are my sister, cripple and the starfish, and the beyonce cover “crazy”….
